CHIREDZI, (Lowveld Post) – PERENNIAL favourites, Hippo Valley High School, are desperate for a fifth title at the annual Under-15 Copa Coca-Cola tournament, which enters the district stage in Save next weekend.
They recently qualified for the prestigious youth football tournament ahead of Chiredzi Christian College, Chiredzi Government, Ezekiel Guti and Muleme schools.
Tongaat Hulett-funded Hippo Valley are four-time winners of the tourney but have not tasted success in years.
Their campaign came to a grinding halt last year when Pamushana High drubbed them 5-0.
“Last year we were quite unfortunate with a defeat by Pamushana,” said Hippo Valley head coach, Colonel Dube.
“This time I believe we are going to win a ticket into the finals because it’s now more than six years without lifting the trophy or even reaching provincial finals so we are desperate for it.”
Dube maintained confidence in his lads will book a berth in the national finals, ahead of such tough opponents as two-time champion, Dewure, and Gutu High.
“We are aware of our opponents’ type of play. We are going to train seriously for them and ensure we qualify for the national finals,” he said.
The Hippo Valley girls team has also qualified for the regional finals.
