TRIANGLE, (Lowveld Post) – THE Lowveld based outfit Triangle FC has started their Chibuku Super Cup title defence campaign on a positive note following their emphatic 3-0 win, knocking out school boys Herentals at Gibbo stadium.
The match was played on Thursday.
The 2018 Chibuku champions ‘Sugar Sugar’ boys, grabbed an early lead in the 3rd minute through scintillating and back inform Pascal Manhanga before Collins Duwa doubled their lead in the 17th minute, capitalising on Allan Tavarwisa’s superb cut-in.
In the first half, Herentals failed to create meaningful threats that could thwart Triangle’s solid defence, captained by centre back Kudzai Chigwida who had returned from an injury.
With just four minutes into play from a breather mark, silky Delic Murimba stretched their lead beating Herentals goal minder Prince Tafiremutsa who had a defence mix-up with Blessing Maunganidze.
Triangle gaffer Taurai Mangwiro highly praised his charges for how they tactically and psychologically handled their opponents.
“We did well to score early to give us the much need belief going forward and the good thing was that we managed to follow up the early goal we had scored. From there onwards, it was about game management.
“We had to manage it very well to a larger extent. I thought we did well , not receiving much threats and our movement going forward was excellent,” said Mangwiro.
Mangwiro’s opponent Kumbirai Mutizwekuziva said: “We had a poor show conceding three goals, two in the first half, one in the second half.
“We have factors to look around for our poor show. Today l would attribute much to weather, it was a bit harsh in-terms of high temperatures and at the same time, the travelling aspect that we had, are factors around our defeat though much of our concentration is on the league where we are fighting for survival.”
Having knocked Herentals out of the competition, Triangle now progress to quarter final stages.
Last year, Triangle bagged the Chibuku Super Cup a second major silverware in their cabinet having defeated Harare City 2-0 at Gibbo.
