CHIREDZI, (Lowveld Post) – LOWVELD based 10-year-old swimming prodigy Yorina Mugadhi pulled an impressive performance at the national Sprint gala, scooping four medals.
The gala which also marked the initial junior participation, was held in Mutare last weekend.
Mugadhi who was among the 10-member squad of the Silver Fins Club, managed to bag three bronze medals and one silver in 10/u, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle respectively.
Silver Fins Club coach Mark Burbidge showered praise on Mugadhi for her stellar performance.
“Like I said before I wanted kids to participate for exposure. Yorina loves racing and competition; and she did very well at the Mutare Sprint and I am proud of her performances,” said Burbidge.
Her (Yorina) performance at the recently ended gala did not only see her adding medals to her name but earned her the ticket to participate in a swimming competition in South Africa.
“She achieved her level 2 times for three of her strokes which means she is legible to participate in the SA nationals which will take place in Polokwane in March next year,” added Burbidge.
Early this year, Mugadhi who is a student at Murray MacDougall in Triangle clinched five medals at the Zimbabwe’s junior swimming competitions in different categories.
This year’s Sprint gala witnessed more than 200 kids from all the provinces tussling for prizes.
