CHIREDZI, (Lowveld Post) – THE Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe (MSDZ) has warned of heavy rainfall over parts of the Lowveld.
In a press statement released on Tuesday evening, the MSDZ revealed that widespread rains are expected across the country from Wednesday 20 to 22 November 2019 with heavy downpours in some places.
“On Wednesday 20 November parts of Manicaland, Matabeleland south and Masvingo (Lowveld) are forecast to receive heavier rains in excess 50 mm in 24 hours, ” read the statement.
The MSDZ also reiterated that these rains may also be coupled with incidents of hail, strong winds and lightning.
The MSDZ has also said the rains will steadily easy off, giving way to bright and showery weather in most areas with localised heavier falls over Mashonaland East and parts of Masvingo Province.
The rains are expected to be accompanied by damaging winds and lightning which will uproot trees.
Damage to infrastructure cannot be ruled out.
The MSDZ urged citizens to avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams.
The MSDZ also urged citizens to provide feedback or information on disasters through their social media platforms that is WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter.
