CHIREDZI, (Lowveld Post) – FORMER Minister of State for Masvingo province Kudakwashe Bhasikiti has been acquitted of a $225 000 fraud charge.
The State failed to prove a prima facie case against him, leading to the State case losing its weight.
Bhasikiti was dragged to court for allegedly defrauding a Mkwasine farmer Nicholas Mhene.
It was alleged that on a date unknown to the State five years ago, Bhasikiti lent a trailer registered AAF 9275 to the Lowveld farmer for temporary use.
Mhene, on 20 June this year approached the accused following a report he received that Bhasikiti was selling a trailer.
After discussing the matter, Bhasikiti agreed to sell the Daf horse and the trailer flat bed for a price of Z$365 000.
A problem arose when the complainant tried to register both the Daf horse and the trailer only to find out that the trailer chassis number was different to the one indicated in the registration book.
The former Zanu PF politburo member is now a member of the National Patriotic Front (NPF).
During the 2018 general elections, Bhasikiti hogged the limelight when he addressed rallies organised by opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance alongside Nelson Chamisa its president.
