CHIREDZI, (Lowveld Post) – ZIMBABWE’S under 15 boys team will face Namibia in the quarter finals of the 2019 COPA Coca Cola Africa Cup tournament on Tuesday (today).
On Monday, they defeated Kenya and Mozambique in group stages.
This year’s tournament is being played in Thika, Kenya and is set to end on December 5.
Zimbabwe showcased a swashbuckling performance when they emerged victors of pool A, defeating Kenya 3-1 and Mozambique 4-2.
Luke Musikiri produced arguably one of the best performances so far, having grabbed a hatrick against Kenya before adding another goal against Mozambique.
Zimbabwe coach Pathias Mauto is upbeat that his lads will continue with their fine run.
“Am just happy for our boys for collecting six points, we give more credit to Luke Musikiri for scoring four goals in two matches, Alfa Chiwashira two goals and Dylan Gumbe scoring the last goal against Mozambique.
“Today (Tuesday) in the quarter finals we will be facing Namibia, I think the boys will carry on with victories because they are now confident after topping the group which had very good teams and Kenya being the defending champions,” said Mauto.
The tournament themed ‘Bigger and Better’, seeks to promote a level playing field by bringing together players from different backgrounds and cultures for one goal; to be the African champion.
Twelve teams are participating in this prestigious Pan African tournament and these include Zimbabwe, South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Angola, Ethiopia, Botswana, Namibia and Kenya.
