CHIREDZI, (Lowveld Post) – PANIC has gripped the Chiredzi Primary School after a teacher tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
All Grade four pupils and 11 other teachers she came in contact with face an anxious wait for their results.
Lovemore Chisema, the Chiredzi District COVID-19 Taskforce Chairperson, confirmed the setback.
“A Grade 4 teacher tested positive for COVID-19. We suspect that she was infected by her husband who tested positive first,” Chisema said.
“All staff and Grade 4 pupils who came into contact with the teacher were tested but the results are yet to be released,” he added.
It could not be ascertained when the results would be out.
Petronella Nyangwe, the Chiredzi District Schools Inspector, confirmed the case.
“The matter is being handled by officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care,” she said.
The COVID-19 scare at the school came as government ordered all schools to re-open in early November.
However there is a spike of cases in schools around the country.
Zimbabwe has confirmed 10 839 cases, including 294 deaths from COVID-19.
